Taking Part in First Choice
|
Since
2004 First Choice has been running tenant workshop prgrammes.
We decided that the tenant conferences we had held before
were too big for everyone to enjoy properly.
By getting smaller groups together more often we thought
that our tenants could learn more about their landlord,
their home and what their rights and responsibilities are.
Different things we have talked about at the workshops
include:
1. Health and safety in the home
2. Taking Part in First Choice
3. Making changes in the home
4. Tenants’ rights and responsibilities
5. My life, my pet, my garden
The workshops also offer an opportunity for our tenants and
their support staff to meet up with each other and have a
chat about common interests.
Everyone
who comes to the workshops is given a certificate.

First Choice
Tenant Workshops |
Since 2004 First Choice has been
running a programme of tenant workshops. We decided that the tenant
conferences we had held before were too big for everyone to enjoy
properly.
By getting smaller groups together more often we thought that our
tenants could learn more about their landlord, their home and what their
rights and responsibilities are.
Usually we have five workshops – one a month – covering the following
subjects:
1. Health and safety in the home
2. Taking Part in First Choice
3. Making changes in the home
4. Tenants’ rights and responsibilities
5. Overview of all subjects
We have a quiz at the end of each workshop to see how much everyone has
learned. At the last workshop, where we talk about everything we have
covered in the first four workshops, there is a big quiz with prizes for
the winners.
Everyone who comes to the workshops is given a certificate.

Living in
your home |
This training guide and
tenant workbook is intended to increase the number of ways in which
tenants with a learning disability can be informed about their rights
and responsibilities as tenants. The project was carried out by First
Choice Housing Association Ltd, West Glamorgan Housing Consortium and
Cartrefi Cymru. The project was part funded through the
Welsh Assembly Government’s Social Housing Management Grant Programme
2003-2004.
The
project had two aims:-
-
To enable tenants with a learning disabilities to train other tenants
on tenants’ rights and responsibilities.
-
To produce a tenants’ rights and responsibilities workbook which could
be used by tenants at home.
The
Living In Your Home training manual can be downloaded from this website.
You can also contact First Choice to obtain a copy, including the CD rom
which accompanies the training pack. There is a charge of £25 to cover
administration costs.
